A long-standing phrase indicates, “No one said it would be easy.” I’ve heard this saying so many times, I don’t even think about it anymore. This time, at the Free State Corvette Weekend at Ocean City, Maryland – I thought about it!
This was the 23rd year for this event and nothing has compared to this. We knew early on that the numbers would be down, which we considered fallout from our lackluster economy. But none of us expected the numbers that did show up considering the weather conditions.
When I think back on how bad it was in Ocean City, Maryland, I am reminded that many of you drove through perhaps worse driving conditions, such as snow storms, just to get to the event. Some of you left your beloved Corvettes home and still attended. Others (forgive the pun) weathered the storm and drove your Vettes to town and some drove through flood waters to get on the parking lot.
The car show & rallye went on followed by the boardwalk parade, an estimated 300 Vettes participating. It seemed that only the inside parties and dinners went off without a hitch.
With all this said, a simple thank you does not feel adequate. However, with all of our dependent charities in mind, we at Free State Corvette Club owe you a debt of gratitude for your participation. We can only hope that next year the weather will be more conducive for the type of event it is designed to be. It is with this thought that we sincerely wish to see you at the beach in October 2010.
Warm regards,
Wyatt Greenwalt, President
